How We Price

Here are some things a client can expect when they first reach out to us!

  1. Introduction and discussion of the project, complimentary initial in-person/on-site/zoom meeting.

  2. We will create a Scope of Work for the client that clearly details the items we will be responsible for.

  3. We will create an estimate for that Scope of Work.

When it comes to pricing an interior design project, designers use a variety of standard pricing structures.  The most common are pricing by the hour or a cost plus formula (whatever is specified and ordered is priced at its retail value, then marked up a percentage to cover design time).  We’ve found that pricing by the hour requires more time and logging on our end.  It also creates an unknown for the client.  They do not know how much the project will ultimately cost.  They also fret about any time we spend with them that they may not see as essential.  Even just getting to know each other (an important step in the design process) leaves them worrying about every minute they’re paying for.

We’ve found that the easiest and most transparent method for both our clients and ourselves is to give a design services price for the full scope of work.  We do this by estimating how many hours it will take as well as factoring in intellectual property.  Our strategy of providing a whole project design cost in the beginning allows everyone to relax into the creative process and know they won’t have to pay for it later!  This whole project price includes two revisions.  This leaves the client with three design schemes overall: the initial, the first revision, and the second.  If the design is still not nailed down by the third round, we will strategize with the client on how to move forward.  Typically we would move to an hourly rate for any additional time.  (To this day, we have not needed to implement this.)

We also create a draw schedule for the client.  This breaks up that total cost into payments throughout the design process.  An initial deposit is required up front, typically followed by another draw upon design conceptual completion, and a final payment after installation and project completion.  If it is a larger project with construction, we may have additional draws in between to help spread out those payments as well.

Every project is unique and this method allows us to tailor our services for the client’s specific needs!
